This little Singapore/Hong Kong lifestyle blog of mine celebrated its 7th birthday last week! It’s pretty crazy sometimes to think that I’ve been at it for this long and that this blog has captured so many years of adventures and memories. Even though citygirlcitystories.com is a hobby blog and a small one among millions out there, it’s truly a project that brings me a lot of joy and it’s something I’m proud of! :)
If you’re reading this, or if you’ve spent any amount of time in your day to drop by my online home, please know that I’m always grateful and I hope you continue to pop by! I hope my simple posts bring ideas and inspiration for your own city adventures in Singapore and Hong Kong and thank you for exploring with me. :)
At this 7 years mark, I was reflecting on all the wonderful places I’ve been to, people I had the privilege to meet or talk to through this blog or social media, opportunities and collaborations that I’m honoured to receive. My blogging journey has been such a fun ride, getting to experience so many city adventures and then sharing them online. I never take a moment for granted. It’s a wonderful blessing to experience this and my heart is full. :)
For this post, I wanted to re-visit the last 7 years of blogging with some of my personal favourite posts, even though I love every post I put out here! Join me for a trip down memory lane? :)
P.S. As an extension to citygirlcitystories.com, you can also find me over on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and my bookstagram! ⭐
2014 – the beginning of City Girl, City Stories!
Brew Maison cafe – My first post after the usual first “Hello!” post was about one of my favourite cafes in Singapore! Always loved a good cafe, but sadly, Brew Maison has closed.
Christmas at Hong Kong Disneyland – Fun times! I love Disneyland and miss it very much! I haven’t been back since this trip and can’t wait to visit again!
2015
Avenue of Stars – This was one of my favourite spots in the city when I used to live in Hong Kong and I was a little bummed when I heard it was closing for an upgrade. I always assumed that I’d be there for its reopening, but I had already moved to Singapore by the time it reopened in 2018 and I cannot wait to re-visit to see the new Avenue of Stars. :)
kikki.K Hong Kong – Early on in my blogging journey, I couldn’t believe it when I was invited to the opening event of stationery and lifestyle brand kikki.K’s Causeway Bay store opening in Times Square Hong Kong. I have been (and still am) a huge fan of kikki.K products for years, so I was truly over the moon when I got the invitation and was so delighted to meet the brand’s Founder Kristina Karlsson!
2016
Light Rose Garden HK – This public art installation from South Korea called “Light Rose Garden” featuring thousands of LED roses arrived to Hong Kong in 2016 and I braved the crowds to check it out on different days to catch the day and night views. I’ve always been so happy Hong Kong managed to bring this in and it remains one of my favourite art installations to this day!
Hong Kong Egg Waffle – I LOVE the good old humble HK egg waffle. I wrote this post because I loved eating it and I was surprised when I realised a lot of my friends in Singapore were not familiar with this at the time! This post remains as one of the most read posts on this blog! :)
Trick Eye Museum – The super fun Trick Eye Museum originated from South Korea and my first time visiting it was actually in Seoul in 2012 when I was studying abroad there for a summer semester! I never could have imagined that a few years later, I would receive invitations via this blog to visit both the Singapore & Hong Kong Trick Eye Museums – love them all!
2017
Chinese New Year in HK – I was always capturing snapshots of the city wherever I was and put together this post of Hong Kong’s largest celebration of the year.
Goodbye, Hong Kong – In the middle of 2017, my Hong Kong chapter came to an end. I wanted to stay longer, but circumstances didn’t allow for it and I had a job offer in Singapore, so I said farewell. :(
Exploring National Gallery Singapore – I’ve been a museum enthusiast for a while and with the opening of Singapore’s newest visual art museum in 2015, had to explore the beautiful museum housed in such a beautiful building!
2018
Exploring Singapore Shophouses – I love how unique shophouses in Singapore are and always find myself snapping pictures or slowing down to take a look whenever I pass them. :)
Exploring Hong Kong: HKU – Ahh, one of my personal favourite posts. :) I have very wonderful memories of my time at university and I miss my lovely campus very much! Next time I’m back in HK, I’m definitely going to wander around again.
Christmas in Singapore – Christmas in Singapore is so pretty every year, I love it! I love how bright and sparkly the city is and I love all the shopping deals hahaha and it’s always a great time to reflect on the year.
2019
Cake Spade – A cake cafe housed inside a pink shophouse with great cakes and coffee! I mean, how perfect is this cafe? :)
Universal Studios Singapore – I finally visited this theme park for the first time in 2019! Fun!
2020
City Girl Reads – I’m told that I started reading books on my own when I was 2 years old and well, I’ve never stopped! :) Last year, I started to share some some of my favourite reads on this blog. For more book related stuff, check out my bookstagram @sisterreads!
Jewel Changi – Visited the newly opened amazing Jewel Changi shopping mall next to Singapore’s airport, designed by Moshe Safdie.
Singapo人 (Singapo-ren) – Really enjoyed this exhibition at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre! :) This remains one of the most viewed post on this blog recently, hope you enjoyed the exhibition as much as I did!
2021 – 7 years!
Little Oasis – 2021 has been a difficult year, but thank goodness we have cafes like Little Oasis which is a peaceful escape from the challenges and the noise.
Orchestral Manoeuvres exhibition & Marina Bay Sands staycation – Highlight of my 2021, so delighted to be invited to preview such a great exhibition at one of my favourite museums and to stay at the iconic Marina Bay Sands hotel, an experience I’ll always remember. :)
7 years is quite a long time to be online, I think. Thank you always for being part of the journey with me. :) Sending you wishes of peace and good health in this crazy pandemic, take care and talk soon!
