Marina Bay Sands 3D2N Staycation!

30 September 2021 in EATS, FUN, SINGAPORE, STAYCATION

When I started City Girl, City Stories almost seven years ago in Hong Kong, I had this idea and longtime wish to share my city life adventures, inspired very much by the living abroad life I was experiencing at the time. This aim to share my city adventures remains true today. :) I’m not saying my life is especially exciting (I do work full time outside of this blog haha), but I’ve been very lucky to have enjoyed many wonderful experiences over the years that I’ve always loved sharing about here!

Last month, in the midst of a particularly stressful work period, I received the most exciting invitation to live out my city girl dreams! Marina Bay Sands invited me to preview their newest exhibition Orchestral Manoeuvres at ArtScience Museum (read all about it here!). As I’m a big fan of ArtScience Museum, that was already incredibly exciting, but Marina Bay Sands also generously invited me to a 3 day 2 night staycation at their iconic hotel! I mean, it truly was a pinch me moment and I’m so grateful for it. :)

Personally, 2021 hasn’t been easy and it’s definitely been a difficult year for Singapore too, so when I took a few days off to go on staycation, I realised how much I was in need of a break. It was a complete privilege that my break got to be in this beautiful hotel with some of the best food I’ve eaten, the most incredible city views and the wonderful itinerary that Marina Bay Sands had arranged for me!

Do let me transport us back to my staycation experience and I hope it gives you ideas for your future staycation at MBS as well, because I honestly can’t recommend it enough. I promise you I’m not just saying that, I truly loved my time here. :)

Loved seeing art all over the lobby and level 1 of the hotel! This colourful piece at the Check-in/Check-out counter is by Sol Lewitt!
Beautiful lights at the lift lobby, where the lifts are so amazingly fast!

DAY 1: Room tour, French & Singaporean food, exhibition press con, Sands Skypark night view

Let’s start with my room tour! My room was a Premier City View room, located in Tower 1, on the 32nd floor. As a 100% city girl and with how frequently I’ve talked about my love for city views, I was so happy that I got this room! I kept staring at this incredible view of Singapore at all times of the day throughout my stay and snapping endless photos. I mean, wouldn’t you do the same? :)

Marina Bay Sands is currently running a Mickey Loves Singapore rewards campaign with Disney and I received a few pieces from the collection, which I love! It looks fun and is made of great quality, I hope you manage to get your hands on them too! Fun fact: I actually packed my Mickey & Minnie Mouse luggage for this staycation, so I felt very on theme!

While I was in the middle of taking photos, taking in the views and unpacking, I got a surprise in the form of a miniature Marina Bay Sands made out of chocolate! It was adorable and delicious! I felt so spoilt in the best way, and this was even before lunch!

For lunch, I experienced my first MBS meal from db Bistro and Oyster Bar, a French restaurant located inside The Shoppes at MBS and out of all the incredible food I enjoyed during this staycation, this lunch was my personal favourite. The whole meal was super fresh, of incredible quality and those madeleines and the yuzu meringue tart hold a special place in my heart. :)

Unfortunately, I wasn’t fully vaccinated from covid yet at the time, so due to government guidelines, I’m not allowed to dine out in restaurants and could not enjoy the full restaurant experience for this stay. I was very grateful that Marina Bay Sands arranged my meals through each restaurant’s Gourmet Takeaway menu instead! On that note, I have to say that every gourmet takeaway meal I had from every restaurant was amazing. You bet I’m returning for another round for the full experience at the restaurants! :)

After lunch, I tuned in to the online press conference of ArtScience Museum’s Orchestral Manoeuvres from my room!

Quick break and then I was off to RISE located on the hotel’s first floor to pick up my dinner – an atas version of local Singaporean dishes. Such huge portions and so yummy! Click here for my next post of a full food diary from Marina Bay Sands, with all the details of everything I ate!

The beautiful RISE restaurant at level 1 of the hotel!

The last activity of the day was to take in the lights from up high at Sands Skypark, the 57th floor observation deck of MBS. Truly amazing views of Singapore at night. :)

DAY 2: Walking tour, Infinity Pool, ArtScience Museum, American & Italian food, Sands Skypark day view

Day 2 started very early because it was a full day of activities! Started the morning taking in the incredible view once again, before getting our in-room dining breakfasts delivered to our room! It was such a treat – the experience, the huge breakfast and enjoying it while taking in the views and the sun coming up.

The happiest I’ve been to be up in the early morning!

After breakfast, we popped upstairs to the 57th floor to visit the famous Infinity Pool (which is available to hotel guests only) and as it was still morning, you can see that it was pretty quiet. A swim in the pool or jacuzzi soak comes along with incredible views of Singapore’s city skyline and Gardens by the Bay! I can understand why everyone loves the pool so much!

There’s also a kid’s pool on the side.

Views of Gardens by the Bay from the jacuzzi!
Can you spot Dale Chihuly’s artworks from the Glass in Bloom exhibition from here? :)

Headed back downstairs to join the Sustainability and Art Tour (free for hotel guests – by appointment), which was a very interesting, informative and interactive one hour walking tour both indoors and outdoors around the hotel, The Shoppes, and ArtScience Museum. We also visited the RISE Herb Garden, behind RISE restaurant, where herbs and plants are grown and then harvested for the restaurant’s use! I really had a great time learning all about the sustainability features the huge property uses and seeing the many artworks by artists from Ned Kahn to Antony Gormley. You know I’m an arts enthusiast and always up to learn something new, so I have to recommend this tour! Definitely sign up!

Sky Mirror by Anish Kapoor located outside ArtScience Museum is a personal favourite artwork of mine! :)
Tipping Wall by Ned Kahn was such an interesting stop on the walking tour too!
RISE Herb Garden
Was pleasantly surprised to discover that these huge ceramic vessels were all art pieces! The sculptures are Rising Forest by Zheng Chongbin (more here).
When you look up, you will see Drift by Antony Gormley, love it!

After all the walking, time for another huge meal from the very popular Black Tap, known for their elevated American classics. We got two of their classic and award winning burgers, fried mozzarella and two milkshakes to go with it! I was so happily full! :)

A rainy view over lunch..

Afternoon plans called for a trip to the always fantastic ArtScience Museum, one of my favourite museums in Singapore, to check out their newest sound and music themed exhibition Orchestral Manoeuvres, which was loud, soft, thoughtful and amusing, all at the same time! (See my post on the exhibition here!)

We ended up spending a very long time at the museum haha, and after a quick break, visited the Sands Skypark for the second time to take in the day view. My snapshots are from the late afternoon, sometime around 5:30pm to 6pm. I love city views very much, and getting to see Singapore from way high up on the top of Marina Bay Sands was amazing. :)

To end the evening, we picked up our Italian dinner from LAVO, along with a slice of their popular and indulgent 20 layer chocolate & peanut butter cake! Food was very tasty, of course, and after a very full day of activities, we were really glad to relax and enjoy the meal in our room with the night view of Singapore twinkling outside our window. Perfect end to a perfect day. :)

It was nearly my sister’s birthday during this staycation, so the huge slice of cake acted as her birthday cake as well! :)

DAY 3: In-room breakfast, gift shop, farewell till next time!

Our final morning, we got up early once again and enjoyed the luxury of another in-room dining breakfast. Both my sister and I loved the in-room breakfast experience so much! This time, we enjoyed our breakfast very slowly because it was our last day. Caught up with some stuff on our laptops while finishing our huge breakfast and taking in the beautiful city views one last time, before reluctantly packing up our luggage and saying farewell to our comfortable and wonderful room!

The best city views. :)

We made one last stop to the hotel gift shop and was delighted to see a Marina Bay Sands themed Monopoly set and this adorable wooden music box that featured the hotel and ArtScience Museum, which I loved so much! :)

Even as I recap my whole staycation now, I still have to pause to take in what a wonderful treat it was and I’m truly so thankful and happy I got to experience it all. Everything from the room, the incredible views and artworks, the delicious food, the wonderful staff and the best activities, this staycation getaway was my city girl dreams come true. :)

I hope my experience gave you some inspiration and ideas for your own staycation at Marina Bay Sands and if you’re considering it or have ever thought about it, I can definitely 100% recommend it! There are staycation offers and deals available now, so do check it out if you’re interested and here’s wishing you a wonderful vacation too. :)

Today marks my 5th year anniversary of moving back Today marks my 5th year anniversary of moving back to Singapore! 💫 26 June 2017, I said goodbye to Hong Kong and still to this day, miss aspects of my life there. But Singapore has been great for me and is home now. 😊

5 years back in SG has let me start another new chapter and offered me plenty of new experiences and challenges. I've been through successes, failures and standstills. It hasn't been easy, that's for sure, but I'm happy to share that at this 5 year mark, I'm finally in a contented, balanced and happy place. 😊 It definitely took work, trial and error and heaps of God's blessings, but I'm here. 🌻

HK, you're always a special place to me, so hopefully, I'll get to see you again soon. 💖

- Lovely lunches/dinners + great people & conversations. Incredibly grateful for the people in my life. 🌟
- The cutest exhibition featuring @angkukuehgirl
- Visiting a very nostalgic restaurant @oldschooldelights - brings back all my childhood memories!
- Pink skies 💗
- Attended a tour of the 'Mapping the World' exhibition at @nlb.singapore - fascinating and insightful!

Other moments that couldn't fit in here: my first VR experience at the ArtScience Museum, shopping and gifts and more new books! 😄 Ending the month with a thankful heart.

Let's go, 2022. ☘ Let's go, 2022. ☘
2021 has been a roller coaster ride - up and down, 2021 has been a roller coaster ride - up and down, down and up and upside down. 🎢 The year zoomed past - I feel like I got on the ride, excited and expectant and then realised I got on the craziest roller coaster there is. I haven't really gotten the chance to catch my breath or pause and have a moment to reflect.

Overall, it's been a good year (and it's such a blessing to say this in yet another challenging year) but I would very much like to be able to take a break and slow down sometimes.

With all its craziness, 2021 has also taken me by surprise, in some major and wonderful ways. I'm incredibly thankful for it all and want to look forward to 2022 with faith and hope.

As this roller coaster ride comes to an end soon, I'm getting ready to get off, steady myself and hopefully the next ride is more a carousel instead? 🎠 See you soon, 2022. 🌠
It's been a long and tiring year, 2021. I recognis It's been a long and tiring year, 2021. I recognise my own privilege, and I'm always thankful for good health, steady work and kindness from people around me. But I'll readily say 2021 has been a tough chapter.

I've felt stressed and overwhelmed a lot this year. I try my best and give it my all, and everyone tells me I need to take a breath, hand the burden to the Lord and let it go. True and good advice. 😄

Today is a public holiday in SG and I'm on full holiday mode. I've been indoors so much I feel like I'm rediscovering my city girl life again. 😂 I got up at noon and spent the day with @wording_art at one of our favourite spots in the city: Gardens by the Bay. 🌳 We ate, laughed and took a walk in the sunshine and breeze. Then we took pictures of ourselves and our shadows, because we started doing this when we used to live in Hong Kong. We think back fondly on our HK days and talk about going back when it's safe to travel again.

Should definitely take a break more often. 🌞
