Tesalate: Towels for the Beach, Pool & Picnics!

30 August 2020 in SHOP, SINGAPORE

Are you spending your days mostly in or out these days? I’m still spending most of my days in, but occasionally popping into the office for a couple of days and usually taking a day from the weekend to be out. :)

Gradually, I’ve been venturing out a little here and there, back to discovering new favourite spots in my sunny city. Recently, during a long weekend, I popped by Gardens by the Bay for a picnic, some sunshine and to snap some pictures! It was the best afternoon. :)

In this post, I’ll be sharing about my new Tesalate towel, which I was kindly gifted to review. :) When the press team at Tesalate reached out about choosing a towel of my own, I was so excited that this popular Australian brand found my little blog and couldn’t wait to try a product that I’ve heard so much about!

Tesalate is based in Sydney and known for their sand-free, water absorbent and compact towels that are perfect for the beach, the pool, picnics and even the gym too! They’re engineered differently from a regular beach/bath towel and you can read all about the technical stuff here! In addition to its practical functions, they also come in a wide selection of fun and colourful designs! I spent 20 minutes deciding on the one I wanted and picked the ‘Paradise Found’ towel. Tesalate told me it’s one of their all-time bestselling designs, so seems like I picked right! :)

When I opened the package, I was surprised to see how thin the towel was, and it was very light and compact, easy to carry around in the drawstring bag it comes along with. When travelling is possible again, this is definitely a great piece to travel with.

For me, I decided to take my towel to the park instead of the beach to avoid the crowds at this time, but at a later time when COVID-19 is finally gone, it’ll be fun to bring it to the beach. For reference, my towel is in the regular size of 160 cm x 80 cm (63 x 31 inches) and weighs 500 grams. Tesalate also offers a larger “towel for two” size of 160 cm x 160 cm (63 x 63 inches).

My first impression when I laid out my towel at the park was really liking the bright and colourful print, it brings such a happy mood right away and I definitely had the best looking “picnic mat” in the whole park! I snapped a picture to show the back of the towel, because all Tesalate towels are double sided and the back features this black and white triangular print.

At the park, I spilled water on my towel to test its water absorbency and found it very effective! The water I poured out started to be soaked up in a few seconds and while the spot stayed damp, it was not dripping. As I didn’t test it out on sand yet, I haven’t gotten the chance to try its sand-free element (where the sand will easily fall right off the towel when you shake it, preventing you from bringing sand home with you), but I read tons of reviews online who praised its sand-free properties, so next time, perhaps I’ll enjoy a picnic by the beach!

There’s a lot to love about Tesalate’s towels, but I’ll be honest and say these towels don’t come cheap. My regular towel costs US$59, but the price includes free shipping worldwide and Tesalate covers all customs duties and taxes of shipping to your country (if any). Having tried this towel, I’d say this is a case of paying for quality and if you’re the type who especially loves hanging by the pool and sunny beachside vacations, this is going to be perfect. :)

Stay safe and hope there’s sunshine wherever you are! ☀️

☀️ A day in the life: out of office edition ☀️

I've been enjoying browsing "a day in the life" posts shared by others, so I thought I'll share one of my own. :) Here's a day I captured, when I was out of office a few weeks ago for a much needed break. 😌

🍳 Started the day at my neighbourhood Starbucks, eating a small breakfast and started on a bit of blogging again~

📚 Popped over to the bookstore @booksbeyond.borders to donate some books and browse more books & wonderful things!

🍽 📽Off to a buffet lunch! Stuffed myself happy, then dashed to the cinema @theprojectorsg to catch a screening of Angelina Jolie's <Maria>

🍵 Walked over to @baristartcoffee_sg inside another bookstore @bookxcess and had grand plans to read my book, but ended up contemplating my career instead. 😆

That's a day in my life (OOO edition), how do you spend yours?

Before we dive head first into 2025, my sister @wording_art and I spent a spontaneous few days in our (other) favourite city: Hong Kong! 🌟

After the craziness of 2024, this sister trip felt like a much needed reset. Thanks HK, for letting us live our best lives. 😄✨️

Some snapshots here, more to come~

2024 has been full of surprises so far! Mostly in great ways though. 😄 This year has also been one of my busiest ones in recent memory. ☁️

In other news, my blog citygirlcitystories.com that I started when I graduated from university turns 10 years old next week! 🥳 Ahh, where does the time go... 😶‍🌫️ Life's demands meant that I took an unexpected hiatus from my blog, but if you'll kindly hope with me, perhaps I could return to it soon! 🍀

(Compiled from three weekends haha, because I have long given up on sharing anything online "on time". 😆)
The first half of 2024 was tiring... in more ways The first half of 2024 was tiring... in more ways than one. Despite that, I had a hard stop in May to take time off, flew across the world and landed in London, a city that has been on my travel list for ages!! 🇬🇧

A week full of (mostly) British summer weather, incredible art and stunning museums, charming bookshops, the most beautiful libraries, scones and tea, I really enjoyed London! 😊💛

I hope to catch up with Instagram/blogging soon, which I completely fell off from, and there's stuff from Singapore/Hong Kong/London I'd love to share, but for now, here's two candid photos captured by @wording_art reflecting my happiness on this trip. :)

🌼 Looks like I'm doing a weird dance but was actually avoiding rain puddles at Kenwood House, one of my favourite places I visited!

🖼 Visited several of London's wonderful museums and this was at the National Portrait Gallery, where I got to see the famed "Portrait of Mai (Omai)" in person! 🤩 I was following this acquisition story in the news and was especially delighted when I heard that it was on display during my trip. :)

More soon and here's to the second half of 2024! ✨️🤞
Books are a huge passion in my life and for 2024, Books are a huge passion in my life and for 2024, I plan to try harder to bring more of my book recommendations to my blog! :) For my first rec this year, I'm excited to share "Dearest New York: A Love Letter to New York" by Deirdre Gartner @girlintheyellowtaxinyc 🚕

If you'd like to, I'd be delighted if you check out my review on citygirlcitystories.com As a bonus, I also have a Q&A with the author herself! 🤩

I'm actually a huge fan of the @girlintheyellowtaxinyc blog and Instagram, so I loved hearing from Deirdre about life in NYC and her experience being a native New Yorker. Do check out the full author interview on my blog! (link in bio) 🍎
