Marina Bay Sands Staycation Food Diary

6 November 2021 in EATS, SINGAPORE, STAYCATION

Since moving back to Singapore in mid 2017, I’ve visited Marina Bay Sands quite a few times, mostly to visit the ArtScience Museum or to catch musicals at the Sands Theatre (remember those good old days before COVID?), but I’ve actually never eaten at any of the restaurants at MBS!

I had the best staycation experience at Marina Bay Sands in August (see my post here!) and I was so lucky to enjoy the incredible food from several of the many wonderful restaurants at MBS and indulged in the luxury of two in-room breakfast delivered straight to my room! :)

If you pop by the Marina Bay Sands’ website here, you’ll see that the dining options cover across all types of cuisines and ranges from casual to fancy eateries and I love the variety available! For my staycation, I enjoyed French food from db Bistro & Oyster Bar, Singaporean classics from RISE, American craft burgers and shakes from Black Tap and a wonderful spread from Italian-American restaurant LAVO. In addition to that, I also enjoyed two quality breakfasts that came in such huge portions! I’m no food blogger/expert, but you know I’m always up to enjoy a good meal or six haha!

The food was so wonderful, I felt that it deserved a whole food diary post dedicated to it. I hope that this post gives you some food inspiration and definitely do check out the huge variety of dining options available at Marina Bay Sands! :)

Note: My meals shared in this post (except for the in-room breakfasts) were from the respective restaurant’s Gourmet Takeaway menus! I was not yet fully vaccinated at the time, so due to government advisories, was not able to dine in at the restaurants. However, despite being takeaway, all the food was amazing and you bet I’ll be back again to dine in!

FYI that all the meals were for 2 people, but honestly, it could easily have been for at least 3 people haha, the portions were so huge! :) I’m incredibly grateful for the hospitality.

Let’s start with my personal favourite meal! This was the first meal of my staycation, lunch from db Bistro & Oyster Bar. The classy restaurant is located inside The Shoppes, across from the Sands Theatre. According to their website, they “offer an exciting mix of traditional French bistro cooking with contemporary American flavors”.

This meal was so delicious, I still think about it all the time. The seafood was so fresh and of such high quality, the dishes were light but also filling and those desserts, oh my. The desserts hold a special place in my heart.

Our lunch:

  • Summer kale salad
  • Maine lobster roll (with fries)
  • Mediterranean sea bass
  • Madeleines
  • Yuzu meringue tart

My plan is to come back to try their afternoon tea, as it looks so lovely! :)

My second meal was dinner from RISE, a beautiful restaurant located at level 1 of the Marina Bay Sands hotel, a little bit past the lobby.

RISE is known for their authentic Singaporean classic dishes, think of it like your local favourites but the atas version. I’ll honestly tell you that I don’t eat Singaporean dishes very regularly, but this was so good and it was very fun to try some local classics which I haven’t eaten in a while. The staff at RISE were so wonderful too. :)

Our dinner:

  • Chinese rojak
  • Har cheong gai (prawn paste chicken)
  • Nasi lemak
  • Hokkien mee
  • Bubur cha cha
  • Chilled almond bean curd
  • Cincau sago
  • Summer red spritz

In-Room Dining: Breakfast 1

Marina Bay Sands hotel has a 24-hour in-room dining service with various menus, you can see the full menu online here! We opted for the breakfast menu, which has so many options, and ended up ordering one American breakfast and one English breakfast, which was served with TWG tea (you can choose coffee too). We placed the order the night before and it was such a huge feast and delivered to our room at 8am as requested. Such a luxury to wake up straight to a warm breakfast brought to our room by the kindest staff. I also really loved that breakfast was delivered with a little orchid flower! :)

In-room dining breakfast hours:
Weekdays from 6am to 11am
Weekends from 6am to 12pm

Time for lunch again! This time, we enjoyed craft burgers from the extremely popular Black Tap, which is from New York City. The menu has a selection of craft burgers to choose from, but we went with 2 of their signature burgers, 2 of their milkshakes and a side as well. I’ve always loved a good burger, so this lunch made me very full and happy!

Our lunch:

  • All-American Burger
  • Greg Norman Burger
  • Vanilla milkshake
  • Oreo milkshake
  • Fried mozzarella

At the end of a wonderful day filled with wonderful activities, I was very glad to enjoy dinner in the comfort of our hotel room, with Singapore’s beautiful night view twinkling at us.

Dinner was from LAVO, which is located on the top floor of the hotel at level 57, next to the famous Infinity Pool! LAVO is definitely a more pricey restaurant, and I feel the price accounts for the ambience and location, plus sky high views of Singapore from the restaurant. The food was delicious of course, and we tried their famous 20 layer chocolate and peanut butter cake, which everyone seems to order! There was so much food, we had to keep some of it to finish the next day. :)

Our dinner:

  • Burrata with heirloom tomato, red onion and pesto
  • Jumbo shrimp cocktail
  • Grilled asparagus
  • Seafood alfredo
  • Meatball pizza
  • 20 layer chocolate/peanut butter cake

In-Room Dining: Breakfast 2

One more breakfast before check out! My sister and I both chose the Continental breakfast this time, with different cereals and yogurt jars. The yogurt was from French brand Ferme des Peupliers, my first time trying it and I loved it! I also loved the mini jars of Bonne Maman jams and honey that was served with our bread and pastries, took them home to continue enjoying them – yum!

Even when putting this post together, I am still overwhelmed by what a wonderful blessing it was to get to enjoy and indulge in experiences like this. I knew the food at Marina Bay Sands was great, but it was truly even better than I expected and it was such a wonderful treat to eat so well during my 3N2D staycation. :)

Of course, even if you’re not staying at the hotel, a meal at any of the restaurants at MBS would also make for a delightful experience and I highly recommend it! Do check out the full list of restaurants here!

[Note: All the meals shared in this post were complimentary, as part of my staycation invitation from Marina Bay Sands. This is not a paid post. Biggest thank you to Marina Bay Sands and all the restaurants mentioned above for the absolutely incredible food during my stay!]

Today marks my 5th year anniversary of moving back Today marks my 5th year anniversary of moving back to Singapore! 💫 26 June 2017, I said goodbye to Hong Kong and still to this day, miss aspects of my life there. But Singapore has been great for me and is home now. 😊

5 years back in SG has let me start another new chapter and offered me plenty of new experiences and challenges. I've been through successes, failures and standstills. It hasn't been easy, that's for sure, but I'm happy to share that at this 5 year mark, I'm finally in a contented, balanced and happy place. 😊 It definitely took work, trial and error and heaps of God's blessings, but I'm here. 🌻

HK, you're always a special place to me, so hopefully, I'll get to see you again soon. 💖

*Feb was such a full month! It was also a month that marked the closing of one chapter and the beginning of another. 😊 Some of my favourite moments:
- Lovely drawings at @natmuseum_sg and wanting to buy so many of the related merch from the museum shop (I didn't!)
- Lovely lunches/dinners + great people & conversations. Incredibly grateful for the people in my life. 🌟
- The cutest exhibition featuring @angkukuehgirl
- Visiting a very nostalgic restaurant @oldschooldelights - brings back all my childhood memories!
- Pink skies 💗
- Attended a tour of the 'Mapping the World' exhibition at @nlb.singapore - fascinating and insightful!

Other moments that couldn't fit in here: my first VR experience at the ArtScience Museum, shopping and gifts and more new books! 😄 Ending the month with a thankful heart.

Let's go, 2022. ☘ Let's go, 2022. ☘
2021 has been a roller coaster ride - up and down, 2021 has been a roller coaster ride - up and down, down and up and upside down. 🎢 The year zoomed past - I feel like I got on the ride, excited and expectant and then realised I got on the craziest roller coaster there is. I haven't really gotten the chance to catch my breath or pause and have a moment to reflect.

Overall, it's been a good year (and it's such a blessing to say this in yet another challenging year) but I would very much like to be able to take a break and slow down sometimes.

With all its craziness, 2021 has also taken me by surprise, in some major and wonderful ways. I'm incredibly thankful for it all and want to look forward to 2022 with faith and hope.

As this roller coaster ride comes to an end soon, I'm getting ready to get off, steady myself and hopefully the next ride is more a carousel instead? 🎠 See you soon, 2022. 🌠
It's been a long and tiring year, 2021. I recognis It's been a long and tiring year, 2021. I recognise my own privilege, and I'm always thankful for good health, steady work and kindness from people around me. But I'll readily say 2021 has been a tough chapter.

I've felt stressed and overwhelmed a lot this year. I try my best and give it my all, and everyone tells me I need to take a breath, hand the burden to the Lord and let it go. True and good advice. 😄

Today is a public holiday in SG and I'm on full holiday mode. I've been indoors so much I feel like I'm rediscovering my city girl life again. 😂 I got up at noon and spent the day with @wording_art at one of our favourite spots in the city: Gardens by the Bay. 🌳 We ate, laughed and took a walk in the sunshine and breeze. Then we took pictures of ourselves and our shadows, because we started doing this when we used to live in Hong Kong. We think back fondly on our HK days and talk about going back when it's safe to travel again.

Should definitely take a break more often. 🌞
