Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience has been all over social media and when my sister was in London last year, she booked her tickets because it was on show during her trip! I haven’t travelled anywhere in years, so I was very excited when I heard that the show was coming to Singapore too!
*Note: Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience – Singapore came to Singapore in March 2023 and has been extended to October 2023.
The moment I heard about it, I bought my tickets right away! I went on my birthday in March and then had the privilege to enjoy it again with my colleagues in April! :)
Did I enjoy the experience? Yes, very much! As it stands, I’m already a museum enthusiast and I enjoy a variety of exhibitions, so a digital art immersive experience sounds like something I’d like! I don’t actually know much about Vincent van Gogh’s life or works and haven’t seen his artworks in person, so the Van Gogh Immersive was actually a really easy and very fun way to “see” them!
The experience consists of recreated versions of his paintings that hang on the wall as you would normally expect from a usual art museum, some digitally recreated paintings (like self portraits that wink!), paintings recreated as life sized photo spots and of course, the highlight was the 20 minute digital projection show that I thought was wonderfully done! It was so creative and colourful and it opens up a famed artist’s works to a brand new audience in a really approachable way. :)
I didn’t look up how much tickets to the experience cost in other countries, but in Singapore, I paid S$26 for the regular adult ticket and S$38 for the VIP adult ticket. On both visits, I went on weekday afternoons (I think the ticket price varies depending on which day/time you select).
Paying extra for the VIP ticket got me:
– A lanyard and VIP card (I get to keep this)
– A five minutes VR experience (you can also pay S$5 to try this if you bought the regular ticket)
– One The Starry Night (1889) poster (retails for S$12 in the gift shop)
While I agree that the tickets are pricey, I was happy to pay for them since I personally really enjoyed the experience, plus my sister loved the poster!
The Singapore experience includes a gift shop filled with of all types of merch and a Janice Wong cafe with gorgeous van Gogh treats, I love it! It was tempting, but I ended up not buying the pretty van Gogh chocolates and just settled for a croissant instead (think it was S$4.50). Have you visited the Van Gogh Immersive Experience yet or will you be planning to? It seems really popular with tickets going fast so I’m glad it got extended! :)
To end this post, I thought it’ll be fun to share my favourite van Gogh work after visiting the experience! It’s definitely Starry Night Over the Rhône (1888). I learned that it’s located in the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, so I hope that I’ll get to see it in person one day! :)
