City Girl Reads #3 – prettycitylondon: Discovering London’s Beautiful Places

Other than flying between Singapore and Hong Kong when I was living in Hong Kong, I hardly travel much. I would love to travel in future, and one of the cities on my list is London! :)

I follow several London themed Instagram accounts and London based bloggers for inspiration and one of my favourites is the popular @prettycitylondon account by photographer and social media consultant (and now author too!) Siobhan Ferguson.

I saw from her account that she had written and published a London photography and travel guidebook filled with her beautiful photos, and after checking out the reviews online, I decided to order a copy for myself. It’s one of my favourite books on my bookshelf!

At first, I was expecting something like a coffee table book, but was happily surprised to find that the book is filled with useful travel and Instagram tips, tied in with endless captures of the most beautiful parts of London. Siobhan fills her book with suggested routes to explore different neighbourhoods, shares her list of favourite places to check out, tips on where to take the best “insta-worthy” photos if that’s your thing and even shares what each season in London is known for. :)

This book is gorgeous for sure, but also incredibly useful and full of recommendations I would love to check out when I make that future trip to London. Any recommendations for London themed books or IG accounts to read and follow? I’d love to know!

Belgravia – As one of London’s most exclusive neighbourhoods, it is hard to imagine that in the eighteenth century the area was a waterlogged wasteland and home to bandits and thieves. Gentrification took hold by the 1820s, when George IV developed Buckingham Palace, and the Grosvenor family who owned the area commissioned the builder Thomas Cubitt to turn it into the grand estate it is today. As I walk around the area it is mind-blowing to think that the beautiful stucco houses as they stand were the result of one master’s builder’s work.
