2020

31 December 2020 in DIARY, SINGAPORE

2020! What. A. Year.

Personally, this has been a long year and I’m really glad to be done with it. Most of 2020 was challenging, although I’ve been very fortunate in my job, salary and health and I’m very thankful for that. For a lot of 2020, I felt stuck and discouraged. BUT (and this is a very big but!), turns out my Heavenly Father had the happiest surprise waiting for me at the tail end of the year, a completely unexpected turnaround that I never saw coming. I can’t believe that in such a tough year, I got to feel the most joy I’ve felt in years. *cries happy tears*

I’ll probably share more about this later, but for today, I hope you’re having a great New Year’s Eve, whatever your plans are. :) It’s been a very tough year for everyone, so here’s to 2021. 🌈 I’m praying and believing for better and much much brighter days ahead! Happy New Year! 🌟

As always, I wrap up the year on this blog with a casual and unedited bunch of photos of little moments that made up my year. Thank you for dropping by in 2020 and I hope you enjoyed my city stories. :) See you in 2021!

Jan 2020 – Sliding into an unprecedented year… (This was a LINE friends 2019 Christmas display at Plaza Singapura.)
Jan 2020 – A whole lot of mandarin oranges received at work for Chinese New Year! Yes, these were all for me!
Feb 2020 – A pineapple light display at the rooftop of the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre for Chinese New Year. I loved it! :)
Feb 2020 – There were life sized mahjong pieces to go with the pineapples hehe. πŸ˜†
Feb 2020 – Dark clouds over the cityscape, kinda reflects the mood of the year doesn’t it.
Feb 2020 – This photo was taken one day after the one above. I kept seeing rainbows in different places across 2020 and it reminded me of God’s promises. :)
Mar 2020 – My birthday month! This was a delicious red velvet cake, weird placement of the macarons was all me.
Mar 2020 – A slice of birthday cake and a great book I read this year.
Mar 2020 – Birthday cake from my colleagues, thank you! :)
Apr 2020 – Circuit breaker life and trying to adapt to working from home. Started taking the time to eat simple breakfasts.
May 2020 – Going for regular walks during CB (partial lockdown) to get some air and time from being cooped up all day, every day.
June 2020 – Long weekends and such a relieve to be able to be out for tea and cake. :)
July 2020 – Started heading back to the office sometimes and discovering new lunch spots. :)
July 2020 – Kept up smiling behind all the mask wearing and feeling more at peace in July.
Aug 2020 – I upgraded all my tech in 2020! It was much needed, as I started the year with a cracked phone screen on a laggy phone, a cracked 7 year old laptop that I finally retired and I finally caught up with going wireless (AirPods and a computer mouse this year). Everything is amazing and I love them all!
Aug 2020 – As the world and the Internet baked, we got store bought pastries and made it through the year with sweet treats.
Aug 2020 – Always capturing different city views. (Tanjong Pagar.)
Sep 2020 – Another city view appreciation snapshot. (Telok Ayer)
Oct 2020 – My family found many reasons to order a cake this year and like I said, made it through the year with sweet treats. I have so many photos of cake this year. Yum. Now, to lose the pandemic weight gain…sigh.
Oct 2020 – So much online shopping this year. I scored so many fantastic deals and discovered some new brands as well! :)
Oct 2020 – Catch ups in a cat cafe!
Nov 2020 – A real life ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ moment along Orchard Road.
Nov 2020 – Carrot and pumpkin buns inspired by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama’s pumpkin sculpture! Would you try one? :)
Nov 2020 – Taking a look at the Insta-famous colourful residential shophouses in Katong on a rainy day.
Dec 2020 – Celebrating my wonderful news with my favourite Hong Kong treats!
Dec 2020 – Christmas!
Dec 2020 – Visiting museums again after they were closed during CB! This is from the Georgette Chen: At Home in the World exhibition at National Gallery Singapore.
Dec 2020 – Ending the year with one more Christmas event, Christmas Wonderland 2020 at Gardens by the Bay!

It's been a long tiring week, so I've been having a simple weekend: getting up for breakfasts, book shopping, picking up more books at the library, watching TV and cozy Youtube vlogs. :)

I usually fill my weekends with a full schedule, but 2020 has taught me that quiet slower ones are just as good. 😌

It's already November and I've missed posting abou It's already November and I've missed posting about the 6th blog anniversary of citygirlcitystories.com (which was in October)!

Running this personal lifestyle blog has been such a passion project. ⭐ 6 years in, this blog has journeyed with me from Hong Kong to Singapore, from university to working life. I'm still the same city girl exploring her city though, and I still have plenty of things to share. 😊

I've talked more on the blog (link in bio) with photo memories from the past 6 years. Check it out! πŸ€—
