DC Super Heroes Cafe

3 May 2019 in EATS, FUN, SINGAPORE

[*Update: Both branches of DC Super Heroes Cafe have closed in 2020.]

Themed cafes and restaurants are always so much fun! Pairing your favourite characters and food, in a usually colourful and fun setting – I mean, it’s just a concept that works. Even when I choose not to check them out myself, I’m always reading blogs or watching Youtube videos on them haha! And while I’ve been to quite a few of them, I think I’ve found my favourite one so far in Singapore. No, it’s not Hello Kitty, but Singapore’s DC Super Heroes Cafe!

(Note: DC Super Heroes Cafe has 2 branches, one in the Ngee Ann City shopping mall in Orchard area and one in The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. The photos and info in this post are from my visits to the branch at Ngee Ann City, although I’ve also added a couple of snapshots from the MBS branch below.)

I consider myself a fan of the DC Comics Super Heroes movies and a huge fangirl of the Wonder Woman film and Gal Gadot, but it’s not so much my love for the movies that makes this themed restaurant my favourite. I’d actually credit the incredible detail that went into this restaurant and the pretty amazing food served here that makes it my favourite. :)

Theme
Since this is a themed restaurant, I’ll start with the theme and how strong its presence is. The DC universe theme is really prominent throughout the restaurant and features images from both the original comics and the movies distributed by Warners Bros. Every inch of the place is covered in some detail of DC – from the life sized figurines of our favourite super heroes to the screening of clips from the movies, to the ceiling and even down to the bill holder your order receipt comes in!

The themed ceiling lights – I love the attention to detail!

At the Ngee Ann City branch I visited, there were even some glass cabinets displaying toy figurines of some of the characters and I appreciated the level of effort the owner clearly put into the restaurant. However, I did notice that the theme is not particularly strong in the main dishes (which is completely fine by me, especially since the food is delicious!), but more obvious in the desserts and drinks – more on this below.

Food
I’ll just be direct and say it – this restaurant is pretty expensive. While all themed restaurants and cafes are expensive, I think this place is slightly more expensive than other themed places in Singapore I’ve come across or visited. The prices for main dishes range from S$18-S$25 in general and drinks cost around S$6-S$13. The good news is, I’ve been here twice and both times I really enjoyed the food, it’s good quality and delicious food you can expect to find in a restaurant and the menu is huge with lots of options. (I’ve included some snapshots of the menu here/here/here/here/here for ref!) My favourite dishes included the pizzas, the chicken curry calzone and the fried chicken and waffles! Yummy. :) P.S. If you have the Eatigo app, DC Super Heroes Cafe is on it and offers discounts!

Just had to include this photo to talk about how cute the cups are! :) It’s not obvious here, but each cup comes with a little plastic “cape”!

Bottled water and canned coffees (each character’s coffee is a different flavour)

Unlike many other themed places, the theme here is not very strong in the food itself, but can be spotted more on the plating. The theme is much more obvious in the desserts and decorated drinks though, for visitors who prefer to stop by for something sweet or to capture a cute photo!

Restaurant & Merch
Both restaurants are spacious and comfortable and have plenty of spots for photo taking. I visited the Ngee Ann City branch and the service was great with friendly staff, who helpfully took plenty of photos for our group. :) The 2 branches also includes a merch section where you can shop for extra themed gifts to complete the experience. Just fyi, if merch is an important factor to you, then the merch section is much bigger at the MBS branch, where it’s more like a whole other store beside the restaurant.

While I do not live my life for the ‘gram’ or the perfect feed, I do like themed cafes and restaurants for the fun factor and it’s always an added bonus when the food tastes good too! :) Fellow DC superhero fans, I hope you’ll enjoy this place as much as I do!

P.P.S. I took a ton of photos at the restaurant, but did not include them all in this post, as it would be too long! If you’d like, do click here to my Flickr album to view all the photos!

It's been a long tiring week, so I've been having a simple weekend: getting up for breakfasts, book shopping, picking up more books at the library, watching TV and cozy Youtube vlogs. :)

I usually fill my weekends with a full schedule, but 2020 has taught me that quiet slower ones are just as good. 😌

Running this personal lifestyle blog has been such a passion project. ⭐ 6 years in, this blog has journeyed with me from Hong Kong to Singapore, from university to working life. I'm still the same city girl exploring her city though, and I still have plenty of things to share. 😊

I've talked more on the blog (link in bio) with photo memories from the past 6 years. Check it out! 🤗
