Neko no Niwa: Singapore Cat Cafe

23 September 2016 in FUN, SINGAPORE

TGIF everyone, the weekend is here! While weekends are meant to be relaxing, I have a couple of things to work on this weekend due to a busy week coming up next. It’s good things making the week busy though, so no complaints. :) I figured that sharing about a cat cafe here on CGCS would match the relaxing theme of a weekend, so here goes!

Neko no Niwa is a cat cafe in Singapore, but I have also previously shared about a Hong Kong cat cafe Cats Planet too. (Click here to read my post!) What can I say, I’m just a huge cat person. :)

I love everything about this cat cafe and I had a wonderful experience so I would definitely recommend it. Most of all, I really appreciate the message that the owners are promoting with the cafe: that all cats, including adopted ones, deserve to be loved. The cafe is home to 13 cats and all of them are rescued or adopted cats. You can read all about them here.

When it comes to a cat cafe, I suppose the first thing that comes to mind is how are the cats? All of them were friendly towards visitors, very clean and adorable. The 13 of them had different personalities too, some were more playful and active, some were shy and harder to befriend and some were downright affectionate. I love them all, of course. :)

Apart from the cats, I have to mention that Neko no Niwa has amazing staff. I came to visit the cafe one afternoon and after a friendly greeting, a staff member told me that many of the cats were sleeping and not very active since it was the afternoon. She asked if I minded that, and if I did, she suggested that I could return in the evening or during the morning on another day for an experience that I may prefer more.

I did decide to return another day on a sunny morning instead and was once again, greeted with friendly staff members who take turns sitting inside the cafe, watching the cats and sharing stories and tips about the cats with me and other visitors. The kitties were quite active in the morning and the cafe was not crowded, so the morning seems like a good time to pay a visit!

The environment of the cafe was very clean and comfortable, with plenty of sunlight streaming in which I liked and a great view facing the Singapore River. It’s located in Boat Quay, which you can see more of in my post here! Below are some pictures of the cafe environment.

Of all the kitties I manage to spend time with, I befriended two in particular, total sweetheart Demi and the princess of the bunch, Miley. (Side note: I love how there’s a ‘princess’ in this cat cafe too, just like in Cats Planet in Hong Kong.) The staff on duty told me that they suspect Miley may have been abused in the past and so she isn’t as friendly as some of the other cats, but we somehow got along very well and after a while, she sat on a chair right next to me, coolly staring at me before taking a nap. I felt quite lucky! Here, meet Miley. :)

This is Demi, who’s such a sweetie and so affectionate and friendly, I wished I could bring her back home with me!

By the way, to get a glimpse of the cats and the cafe, Neko no Niwa’s Instagram account is regularly updated with Instastories from the cafe, which yes, I stalk regularly here from Hong Kong haha!

On the same note, I wanted to share some Hong Kong based cat Instagram accounts I follow, if other cat people are interested! Brother Cream aka 忌廉哥 is a celebrity cat here in Hong Kong and extremely adorable (Instagram link) and Chinese Whiskers is an account filled with Hong Kong shop cats, offering an everyday look at Hong Kong as well (Instagram link).

Finally, how much for a visit to this cat cafe? I spent an hour here and paid S$12, which only covers entry and does not include food or drinks. Those can be ordered separately at an additional cost (menu here for reference). There are different charges if you stay longer than an hour and special prices if you choose to stay for an extended period of time (see all prices here).

Everything about this cat just says weekend and relaxation, doesn’t it? :) Happy to have the weekend here and I hope you have a nice one too, talk soon!
